Any business with a website domain. Unlike financial APIs that require stock tickers, Distill queries directly by domain (e.g., stripe.com) or company ID — covering early-stage startups, private businesses, and public corporations. If a company isn't in our database yet, you can add it directly through your account dashboard.
Where does Distill find news and updates?
Distill aggregates both external press and direct corporate communications:
Mainstream business media and industry trade publications.
Official company newsrooms, blogs, and press releases.
Official company LinkedIn posts.
Regional and international press across multiple languages.
What is the difference between an update and an article?
The API separates content into two distinct types:
Updates (type="update"): Direct announcements published by the company on their blog, newsroom, or LinkedIn page.
Articles (type="article"): Third-party journalistic coverage from news outlets and publications.
You can query both combined or filter by type using the type parameter.
How does source clustering and deduplication work?
When multiple publications report on the same story, Distill clusters them into a single canonical record. The API returns one unified headline and summary, with all reporting outlets and article URLs included in the sources array.
Does Distill work for non-English news?
Yes. Non-English news is translated into English automatically. The API response includes the translated headline and summary, while preserving the native-language text and ISO language code in the original object.
How fresh is the news data?
We monitor sources continuously. Articles and company announcements become queryable via the API as soon as they are processed by our pipeline.
Can I filter by business impact or category?
Yes. Every item includes an impact rating (low, medium, high) that you can filter using min_impact. Company updates can also be filtered by category (such as Product, M&A, or Finance) using the categories parameter.
